Why we built it
Payroll isn't hard because of the calculations. Payroll software does those well. It's hard because of everything around them: hours that arrive late, approvals stuck in someone's inbox, a client asking "where's my payroll?" for the third time, and one person on the team who holds the whole month in their head.
We ran that part on email, spreadsheets and memory, like most bureaus do. Then we built the system we wished we'd had: one record for every pay run, with an owner, a due date and a status that the team, the clients and the accountant partners all see.
Who's behind it
The Payroll Portal is led by Becky Cooper, a payroll bureau founder and payroll director, with her bureau team using it every month on real client payrolls. Every feature has been through a real month-end before it reaches anyone else.

Where we are now
